Dion Horstmans

Designed by internationally acclaimed architects Bates Smart, Ryde Park is a new luxury residential development on Sydney’s lower north shore. At the centre of the development is a 4000-square metre garden that hosts Dion Horstmans monumental sculpture’s titled Genesis 2018. In a second successful collaboration with the artist, UAP worked with Horstmans on the design development, fabrication and installation of this work.

Known for his work that plays with abstract, geometric forms, Horstmans Genesis 2018 stands at 15 meters tall and 13 meters wide, it draws inspiration from the energy and electricity of exploding military decoys, which is captured in the form of the sculpture as well as in the shadows. The significant scale of the work allows light to reflect across its surfaces and cast strong and changing shadows along the ground, creating a signature focal point’s within the development.
