Shen Fan
Born in Shanghai, China in 1952, Shen Fan has been engaged in the practice of graphic, abstract art since the early 1980s. In recent years, he has mainly engaged in creative activities with Chinese characters and traditional humanistic materials. Constantly creating new artworks is the driving force behind his work. He is one of the key figures amongst the abstract art movement in Shanghai and the artwork is considered to “show the modernity of Chinese style” in his work.
Shen Fan’s works have been exhibited and collected in major art galleries and art spaces in China and overseas, including the National Art Museum of China, Shanghai Art Museum, Fosun Foundation and Long Museum in Shanghai, The Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles, the Museum Kunstmuseum Bonn in Germany, and the Lincoln Collection in England. The Shanghai APEC China and Hangzhou G20 Summits selected and exhibited Shen Fan’s works in their major venues. His light and audio installation, Landscape – Commemorating Huang Binhong, is included in the art textbook for the nine-year compulsory education system in Shanghai.
