#The Three Watchmen
WHISTLER, CANADA
Sculptor and hereditary Haida chief James Hart (7idansuu) is widely known for his contemporary interpretations of traditional Haida sculpture. His works have been included in prominent public and private collections across Canada and abroad.
In November 2021, Hart’s public artwork The Three Watchmen was unveiled at Whistler’s Audain Art Museum. His incredible six-meter-tall sculpture depicts the Three Watchmen who serve as sentinels, watching out for danger and keeping people safe.
To realise The Three Watchmen, master carver Hart created a 7-foot carved wooden maquette, which was 3D scanned and digitally upscaled within UAP’s North American studio and foundry in Rock Tavern, New York. Working with Hart, UAP’s craftspeople created and refined the upscaled patterns and using the lost-wax casting process cast the final work in bronze.
