#Shifty Eyes Exercise

SHANGHAI, CHINA

Considered one of Hong Kong’s most exciting emerging artists, Wong Ping’s practice explores sexuality, social relations and politics, in mediums ranging from vibrant installations through to animation.

Shifty Eyes Exercise is temporarily installed on the south terrace of Shanghai’s UCCA Edge as part of their opening outdoor exhibition “Urban Theatre: A Comedy in Four Acts”. Commissioned by the art museum for the exhibition, Shifty Eyes Exercise represents the flickering gaze of urbanities. Whether curious and inquisitive, or adrift and dodgy, the expression in the eyes of the artwork can be seen externalised in the various states of the inflatable tubes.

Created using acrylic, thermal plastic material and ventilation pipes, UAP Shanghai worked closely with Wong Ping and UCCA Edge to explore material, construction and installation methods that would achieve the artist’s creative vision.
