#Penn Station’s Half Century
NEW YORK CITY, USA
To the delight of New Yorkers and commuters alike, Penn Station opened its highly anticipated Moynihan Hall on January 1, 2021. To usher in the new year and the new station, three site-specific art installations were unveiled, including a work by Vancouver-based, multidisciplinary artist Stan Douglas.
Douglas’ series of photographic panels at Moynihan Hall draw upon the histories of Penn Station and New York City by recreating snapshots that occurred at the old station. Through a combination of archival research, digital re-creation, and contemporary photo shoots, Douglas’ Penn Station’s Half Century harks back to the past while also celebrating this new chapter of Penn Station. In close collaboration with Stan Douglas, Public Art Fund, and GGI, UAP assisted with the curtain wall design, material procurement, and installation of this artwork.
