Leo Villareal’s Flying Star is a diptych of artworks suspended in the entry and atrium of The Star entertainment complex. Conceived by the New York based artist to integrate with the architecture, the illuminated forms activate the surrounding public realm by day and night.

The artworks are a continuation of the artist’s exploration of generative illumination in radial forms. Each is a starburst of tubular fixtures utilising over 10,000 LED lights arrayed in a radial pattern 6 metres in diameter. Each segment features individually controllable ‘pixels’ that can each be any of 16 million colours.

Custom software programmed by Villareal and UAP generates constantly evolving patterns, bringing life, energy and iconic form to the architecture.
