Emily Floyd
#Allegory of a Cave
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA
Renowned Australian artist Emily Floyd work with UAP to deliver her artwork, Allegory of a Cave, for One Parramatta Square (1PSQ), a commercial district in Sydney’s western suburbs.
Taking its title from the Greek philosopher Plato’s ‘Allegory of the Cave’, Emily utilises her signature bold and colourful shapes to gesture towards experimental approaches in educational philosophies and open-ended enquiry. Creating her own interpretation of a ‘knowledge cave’, Emily’s work affirms the precinct as an optimistic public space and a centre for information and knowledge production.
The artwork is the result of a Public Art Masterplan authored by UAP and curatorial process in collaboration with artist and curator, Callum Morton. UAP fabricated Emily’s artwork which is comprised of 104 square aluminum blocks of varied heights and colours, suspended in a grid beneath the exterior soffit of the 1PSQ building.
Emily Floyd is represented by Anna Schwartz Gallery.
